The 2015 Bowdoin International Music Festival featured alumnus Derek Bermel, who critic Allan Kozinn (Portland Press Herald) called, “…one of Bowdoin’s success stories. Now a faculty member, he attended the festival as a student 22 years ago…”
Kozinn continued by noting Bermel performed Bernstein’s Clarinet Sonata in “…a vital, persuasive performance.” The composer also performed his own quintet, A Short History of the Universe, which Kozinn described as “…ear-catching…inventive musical depictions.” Read Kozinn’s complete review here.
