Copland House has been named a recipient of the American Music Center’s 2011 Letter of Distinction Award.
“The American Music Center has the happy duty of recognizing those who make the biggest contribution to new American music,” notes AMC President and CEO Joanne Hubbard Cossa. “Both a historic landmark and a haven for those wanting to hone their craft, Copland House preserves the spirit and history of the field.”
AMC’s Award is a distinctive honor. Copland House is the only composer’s home in the United States devoted to nurturing American composers and their work through a broad range of activities. Copland House seeks to honor and preserve America’s vibrant musical heritage, as it encourages the creation of new traditions. It welcomes all who wish to join on an historic journey to build a unique place where America’s musical past and future meet. Copland House also features its own ensemble — Music from Copland House — which is devoted exclusively to performing American music.
Michael Boriskin, Copland House Artistic and Executive Director, will accept the award on May 2, 2011 at AMC’s Annual Meeting and Award Ceremony held at the Chelsea Art Museum in New York City.
