Tim Fain gives “voice” to the violin of “Solomon Northrup,” the lead character in the forthcoming film 12 Years a Slave. Based on historical events, British director Steve McQueen created a film that has already garnered major attention at international festival previews. The movie stars Chiwetel Ejiofor in the lead role, along with Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender. 12 Years a Slave reunites Fain with pianist/composer Nicholas Britell, who wrote and arranged the violin music and spirituals for the film.
Fain’s previous film work includes being seen on screen and heard on the Grammy-nominated sound track of Darron Arenofsky’s hit film Black Swan, and heard as the sound of Richard Gere’s violin in Fox Searchlight’s Bee Season.
Fain’s has also been recently touring his solo multi-media, full-evening project Portals. Portals premiered in 2011 to sold out houses in New York and California, and continued its sold-out tour to Australia at the Melbourne Festival. Portals travels to Boston’s Gardner Museum on October 17th.
12 Years A Slave opens in theaters on October 18.
