On March 25, Naxos USA releases its latest recording of Richard Danielpour’s music: the composer’s oratorio Towards a Season of Peace. Commissioned by the Pacific Symphony, Toward a Season a Peace was written for the orchestra’s 2012 American Composers Festival which celebrated “Nowruz” — the Persian New Year and arrival of Spring. The concert also featured the Pacific Chorale and Grammy-winning soprano Hila Plitmann, conducted by Carl St. Clair. By weaving together sacred passages with texts by the renowned Sufi poet Rumi, Danielpour explores violence and war in the name of religion, using the season of spring as a metaphor for change and transformation.
Toward a Season of Peace joins Naxos’ previous Danielpour profiles including Darkness Through the Ancient Valley (Naxos8.559707), The Enchanted Garden Books 1 & 2 (Naxos 8.559669), and Symphony No. 3 (Naxos8.559712).
