Timothy Mangan of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/articles\/clair-666077-orchestra-one.html\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Orange County Register<\/span><\/a><\/i><\/span> attended and wrote afterward: \u201cLaura Karpman\u2019s <i>Siren Songs<\/i> turned out to be a kind of song cycle for orchestra. The three movements were inspired by three poems by Amy Gerstler (a poet who teaches at UC Irvine), but the poems are not sung. Instead, the words of the poems, which are flashed upon t<a href=\"https:\/\/dworkincompany.com\/pressandevents\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Karpman-Siren-Songs-OC-REgister-logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1173 alignright\" alt=\"Karpman Siren Songs OC REgister logo\" src=\"https:\/\/dworkincompany.com\/pressandevents\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Karpman-Siren-Songs-OC-REgister-logo.jpg\" width=\"449\" height=\"155\" \/><\/a>he screen, supply the rhythms and melodies for various instruments in the ensemble\u2026 Her score clangs and surges and looms and splashes. There are dark colors and long lines and eerie sounds from conch shells and lots of percussion.
