Copland House Receives National Endowment for the Arts Grant
$15,000 Award To Support Public Programming in Westchester
Cortlandt Manor, NY – National Endowment for the Arts Acting Chairwoman Mary Anne Carter announces today that Copland House, the award-winning creative center for American music based at Aaron Copland’s National Historic Landmark home in Cortlandt Manor, will receive a $15,000 grant to support its public programming in Westchester County during the 2019-2020 season. The funding is awarded through Art Works, the Endowment’s principal grantmaking program.
“These awards reach every corner of the United States, and are a testament to the artistic richness and diversity in our country,” said Arts Endowment chairwoman Carter. “Organizations such as Copland House are giving people throughout Westchester County, metro New York, and the nation the opportunity to learn, create, and be inspired.” The Arts Endowment has approved more than $80 million in grants this spring, as part of its second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2019. The Agency received 1,592 Art Works applications for this round of grantmaking, and is awarding 977 grants in this category.
“We are very proud and grateful,” said Copland House’s Artistic and Executive Director Michael Boriskin, “that the NEA is again supporting our programs that champion American music, and our efforts to share and enhance this dynamic legacy. This award affirms Copland House’s ongoing commitment to artistic excellence, imaginative programming, and efforts to connect on multiple levels with our diverse communities.” NEA funds will support concerts and educational activities by the internationally-acclaimed Music from Copland House ensemble, which will bring 150 years of American composers and their work to a diverse audience ranging widely from children to seniors throughout Westchester County.
Inaugurated in 1998, Copland House is the only composer’s home in the U.S. devoted to nurturing and renewing America’s rich cultural heritage through a broad array of musical, public, educational, and informational activities, and to fostering greater public awareness and appreciation of our nation’s composers and their work. Music from Copland House is engaged by major concert presenters across North America, and has been hailed by The Chicago Tribune for its “vital performances by excellent musicians.”
