Glacial, for violin and orchestra, was composed by Fain as a wedding gift friends Rachel and Mikkel, who were getting married in Antarctica. Fain was spellbound by reports that one of the largest ice sheets, the Thwaites Glacier, was melting at unprecedented rates, which could result in the sea level rising by 2 feet.
There’s a quiet urgency in Glacial, which speaks not only to the challenges of marriage, two people coming together with one heart, but also in the choices made every day which will impact the future of life on our planet. Released in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, Fain hoped to bring attention to the fact that we are in the midst of another crisis, that of global warming and preserving life as we know it on the planet. The track was also used to celebrate Earth Day 2020 and for a campaign for The Sierra Club called ‘The Outdoors for All’.
