Easter Island’s first concert pianist and music school, and a new Australian Requiem<\/h1>\n

Mahani <\/strong>Teave<\/strong> was surrounded by song and dance growing up on Rapa Nui (Easter Island). When a retired violin teacher settled there with an old upright piano, Mahani was hooked on classical music. Soon she was playing Mozart and Beethoven as a nine-year-old. She moved to mainland Chile to continue her education, then to the United States and Germany, winning competitions and awards. Mahani\u2019s since returned to Rapa Nui to set up the music school Toki<\/a>; an \u2018earthship’ building made partly out of tonnes of old tyres, glass bottles and cans. It\u2019s all part of giving the next generation the opportunities she wished she’d had. Profits from Mahani\u2019s stunning new album of Chopin, Liszt and Bach go back into the school.<\/p>\n
