Kernis’s cello concerto is a “dramatic fantasy” with virtuoso pizzicato passages and soulful incantations

The orchestra drifted seamlessly between rich full-orchestra passages and moments of intimate chamber music like the gathering and dissipating of clouds in the premiere of Kernis’s  Dreamsongs. The new concerto, for cellist Joshua Roman, was co-commissioned by ProMusica Chamber Orchestra.
